Who would have guessed that the book "Guess How Much I Love You" there would be so much to measure! Let's join Little Brown Hare and Big Brown Hare and measure just how much they love each other!

The book “Guess How Much I Love You” explores the concept of measurement, specifically length and width. Little Nutbrown Hare shows Big Nutbrown Hare how much he loves him (as wide as he can reach, how far he can hop). Big Nutbrown Hare, who can reach further and hop higher shows him that the love is returned even more. Throughout the short story Little Nutbrown hair tries and finds ways to display his love in larger ways than Big Nutbrown Hare. In the book both hares use width, height and distance to express their feelings and uses measurement language.
"I love you this much," said Little Nutbrown Hare, stretching his arms as wide as they could go.
Supporting Children's Measurement Learning
This books provides students with the opportunity to explore and compare measurements made in the story and connect the language of measurement to statement said in the story. After reading the story one activity would be to have the students work in pairs with a ruler or meter stick and measure their partners arm span (width) and compare who’s is wider, higher and compare who is taller, hop and compare who can hop higher and lie down and stretch to see who is longer. In both the activity and in the story the students will be making comparisons on who’s length, width and higher is big, bigger and biggest. Most importantly this activity allows students to start using and linking mathematical language in stories and their daily lives. Lastly, the students will be able to explore measuring their partner’s bodies with a standard measurement unit.
