Let's go on an adventure with measurement! Join us as we find adventure in literature that explores measurement concepts!

This website explores measurement with math books and tools for children. These books that are suggested on the website are highly engaging that highlights mathematical concepts, specifically measurement. The website highlights 10 books for educators or parents to use to introduce measurement. Books such as, Counting on Frank, Pastry School in Paris, Inch by Inch and Measuring Penny. In addition, to books, the website recommends a list of mathematical manipulatives and tools that educators/parents can use when exploring the concept of measurement with the children, such as rulers, cubes, pencils etc. Lastly, it then goes into some activities (basic and advanced) educators could do with their class based on the books listed above.
Supporting Children's Learning of Measurement
By using this resource in daily lessons or in activities it will support the students learning of measurement. The activity plans suggest numerous challenges that will allow the children to investigate height, length and width by measuring arms, legs and objects around the room. It also introduces children to mathematical language such as estimating, centimetres, metres etc. that will support children’s mathematical dialogue. This website supports children’s learning of the concept of measurement as it provides tools that will engage children and have them asking questions and investigating more in measurement as opposed to completing pencil and paper activities. The tools that are suggested are common tools/objects that children can find at home or at school, making it easier for children to practice non-standard measurement outside the classroom and can even investigate further using items they find at home.
